Third House Books is pleased to announce a reading with Gainesville's own Brian Alan Ellis and special guest Laura Minor.
BRIAN ALAN ELLIS's latest collection of stories, Failure Pie in a Sadness Face from House of Vlad Productions, is a finalist in the fall 2016 Civil Coping Mechanisms Mainline manuscript contest, features twenty previously uncollected Brian Alan Ellis stories, as well as five hand-picked favorites, with a special introduction by Chelsea Laine Wells, Hypertext Review editor and Pushcart-nominated writer.
Brian Alan Ellis edits the literary journal Tables Without Chairs, and is the author of three novellas, three short-story collections, a book of humorous non-fiction, and Something to Do with Self-Hate, a novel. His writing has appeared at Juked, Hobart, Monkeybicycle, Literary Orphans, DOGZPLOT, jmww, Heavy Feather Review, Connotation Press, Electric Literature, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, People Holding, Hypertext Review, Queen Mob’s Tea House, The Collapsar, Fear No Lit, Talking Book, and Atticus Review, among other places. He lives in Gainesville, Florida.
LAURA MINOR is the recipient of the 2016 Emerging Writers Spotlight Award at Florida State University, chosen by D.A. Powell. Her poetry has most recently appeared in Berfrois, Queen Mob's Tea House, Hobart, and Spring Gun Press. She was a Teacher’s College Fellow at Columbia University, the recipient of the Sarah Lawrence Poetry Award, and a finalist for Steel Toe Books & Pudding House Press. She will be on the 2017 AWP panel, 21st Century Troubadours, alongside internationally celebrated poets: Rita Dove, Yusef Komunyakaa, and Robert Pinsky. As a singer-songwriter (originally signed in Gainesville, FL), Minor is also currently working on a third record (forthcoming in 2017) while she finishes her debut book of poems as a doctoral candidate in poetry at Florida State University.
